In order to secure the supply of family planning services in Egypt, UNFPA supported the Ministry of Health and Population to prepare a five-year family planning costed implementation plan to secure the supply of contraceptives nationwide.

This comes as part of the EU Support to Egypt’s National Population Strategy.

In this light, UNFPA, the Ministry of Health and Population, with the support of the European Union, held two workshops in Alexandria to develop the plan onon 25-27 October and 22-24 November 2019.

The workshop included reviewing of the proposed strategic objective of the plan, outlining its objectives and targets, evaluating and prioritizing issues of concern in the light of the proposed criteria, reviewing the analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges and identifying the most important interventions in responding to the prioritized issues.

In preparation of this plan, a desk review of all relevant documents and studies was carried out beforehand, including the National Population and Family Planning Strategy 2015-2030 and its 2015-2020 Plan as well as the current assessment of family planning methods.

The workshop brought together staff of the ministry’s population sector, staff from the Supply Insurance Department and representatives of the Information System and other relevant departments, associations and the private sector, from seven governorates; Assiut, Aswan, Beni Suef, Cairo, Luxor, Sharqeya, and Qaliubiya.
