In 2005, UNFPA Egypt established and has since continually supported the YPEER Network. The main concept of Y-PEER is to build a network of NGOs working in peer education, with a focus on Reproductive Health and prevention of HIV/AIDS among young people. In October 2012, at the Y-PEER Global Advisory Board Meeting in Tunisia, Y-PEER Egypt was awarded the “Best Network of the Year - 2012” from amongst the different national networks worldwide. Y-PEER now has 45 member countries and Egypt was one of the first countries in the Arab States to launch Y-PEER. With UNFPA support, the network is now working in more than 12 governorates and includes more than 40 NGO’s and has reached 10,000 beneficiaries. The network provides technical support in the form of trainings, manuals, tool kits and monitoring visits to member organizations.
