كلنا مسئولون – We are all responsible

(Arabic)

The video “We are all responsible” is a part of a campaign against FGM/C run by the National Population Council and UNFPA. The story revolves around Asmaa, a girl with excellent performance in primary school, something her mother would like to celebrate. However, the mother celebrates her in a different way - she takes her to a clinic to have her cut and Asmaa dies.

The narrator asks who is the responsible for Asmaa’s death. Is it the modest parents who were brought up thinking that cutting the girl ensures her honour and chastity? The doctor who sold his dignity for money? The teacher’s lack of awareness? Or is it some of the religious scholars who still claim that FGM/C is a religious duty, even though Al-Azhar ensures it has nothing to do with religion? Could it be the law?  “We are all responsible – make people around you aware”.
