On Thursday 20th of July 2023, a milestone training was completed for 33 medical services providers representing health care facilities, public hospitals of Aswan, Abu Simbel, Fever Hospital, Aswan University Hospital as well as Primary Health-Care Units from Aswan.
This is the second joint advanced training organized by UNFPA-WHO, and the first joint one targeting health care service providers in Aswan, with focus on clinical management of rape guidelines and procedures.
It is also part of the multi-sectoral partnership with the Ministry of Health and Population and the National council for Women to enhance the quality of services offered to women exposed to Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
At the end of the training, the physicians and nurses will be able to identify survivors of GBV and effectively provide them with first line of support, mental health and psychosocial support. The training also covered clinical management of rape as well as special considerations for children and adolescents and GBV in emergency and humanitarian contexts. UNHCR provided an introductory session on the protection and emergency response to refugees, migrants and asylum seekers and the specific registration services and processes available in Egypt for newly arrivals from Sudan.
Participants have also gained practical understanding of the national referral pathway for women subjected to violence, an introduction to the local referral mechanism in Aswan and were introduced to the existing medical, social and emergency services.
