Under the umbrella of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, UNFPA in partnership with the National Council for Women and Modern University for Technology and Information (MTI) in Cairo launched a Safe Women Clinic on November 27.

The launching event is part of UNFPA’s interventions to offer protection and response to women victims of Gender-Based Violence, and is funded by the Korean Agency for International Cooperation (KOICA).

The MTI University Hospital clinic brings the total of Safe Women Clinics to 15 around the country to date, covering governorates of Cairo, Giza, Mansoura, Assiut, Benha, Beni Suef and Minya. In 2023, UNFPA and the National Council for Women are expanding the model to Alexandria, Tanta, Zagazig and MTI University Hospitals.

Safe Women Clinics are specialized medical response units focusing on providing women and girls subjected to violence with comprehensive quality care and referral, that include psychological first-aid, medical services, information, case filing and referral inside the hospital and outside to the Women’s Complaints Office if legal and social services are needed.

Today, UNFPA is also launching a national branding concept and campaign for “Safe Women Clinics,” the objective of which is to create an attractive and survivors-centered messaging to increase awareness and visibility about the clinics and its services. The branding is installed across all University Hospitals offering the service, to allow easy access and encourage women to seek help and support.

The partnership with MTI University has been formalized at the beginning of the year, including an advanced capacity building program for over 20 medical service providers, furnishing and provision of medical equipment for the clinic, aiming for the inauguration today to the public.
