UNFPA and the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) organized a consultation meeting to discuss reproductive health and rights in Egypt with experts from different sectors in the field on February 27.
The meeting was headed by Ambassador Moushira Khattab, President of the National Council for Human Rights, and brought together Dr. Tarek Tawfik, Deputy Minister of Health and Population, and Germaine Haddad, UNFPA Representative in Egypt AI, along with a group of representatives from national councils, ministries, and civil society.
Participants discussed Egypt’s efforts towards realizing reproductive health and rights, especially in light of the recently launched National Strategy for Population and Development (2023-2030) as well as other national and international commitments.
They also identified challenges and discussed proposals to protect women's health and promote reproductive rights.
The consultation meeting also aimed at strengthening coordination and cooperation with relevant entities to implement joint activities that contribute to protecting and enhancing reproductive rights.
Participants of the meeting are meant to produce a report on the implementation of international recommendations and commitments, to be presented to the relevant committees at the United Nations.
