The United Nations in Egypt organized the first edition of the 2022 Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) on September 14-23, bringing together young climate change activists, in the lead up to the COP27 to be held in November in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The conference, held under the umbrella of YOUNGO, the Children and Youth Constituency at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) provides a platform for young people to be represented at the UN climate negotiations.
The LCOY made stops in Matrouh, Fayoum, Alexandria, Aswan, Luxor and the Red Sea.
Under the theme “Lets Grow Together: Transforming Climate Policies into Impactful Local Action,” the LCOY will tackle a number of topics, including sustainable energy, nature-based solutions, adaptation and resilience, and climate finance.
LCOY Egypt was hosted by ACT Sustainable, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with the support of USAID Egypt, and the Embassy of Switzerland in Egypt.
