The National Council for Women (NCW), in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and UNFPA, held a two-day workshop for female judges on addressing gender-based violence and harmful practices on November 17-18.

In October, around 100 women were sworn in as the first female judges to join Egypt's State Council, following a call by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi to include women in the State Council and the Public Prosecution.

The workshop, which also tackled communication and leadership skills, brought together Counselor Sanaa Khalil, Head of the Appeals Court, and Judge Amal Ammar, Assistant to the Minister of Justice for Human Rights, among other members of NCW.

Counselor Khalil highlighted the competence and merit of the female Egyptian judges, adding that they still have more to achieve.

UNFPA works with NCW to build the capacity of key national stakeholders to enhance their skills on gender-based violence case management. This includes criminal justice practitioners including public prosecutors and judges, as well as medical service providers and forensic doctors from the National Forensic Authority.
