On International Women’s Day, 10 women were honored for their important roles in their communities, especially during COVID-19, at the theater of Civil Education, in the presence of Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Minister of Youth and Sports.

The Ministry, in cooperation with UNFPA and Etijah NGO, had launched a competition under the name “The Woman Who Supported Me,” calling for people to send two-minute videos, telling stories about women who had a huge impact on their lives.

Five videos were selected based on the number of reactions they received on social media. Five other videos were chosen based on the content. Both the video creators and the women were honored in the celebration. The videos of the winners of the competition were screened during the celebration.

"We're glad we're partnering with the Ministry in such an event to honor women during these difficult circumstances the world is going through," Dr. Georges Georgi, UNFPA Officer in Charge, stated.

Dr. Ashraf Sobhy emphasized that this celebration is a gesture of appreciation for the great efforts of women and their contribution to society. He said that women are the foundation of the community, their families rely on them to support the children’s education and upbringing.

“We are open to cooperate with various bodies in implementing many activities and projects for Egyptian women at the level of all governorates," Dr. Ashraf Sobhy continued.
