Minister of Youth and Sports welcomes new UNFPA Representative to discuss future cooperation prospects

Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, warmly welcomed UNFPA's new Representative in Egypt, Mr. Yves Sassenrath, during a meeting on September 17 at the Ministry's headquarters in Cairo. The gathering, which included key representatives from both UNFPA and the Ministry, explored the prospects of expanding the long-standing partnership between the two entities, focusing on initiatives aimed at empowering Egypt's youth.

The discussions focused on developing joint initiatives to empower youth in Egypt, enhance reproductive health, and promote population awareness. They also explored new opportunities for collaboration in areas such as the Youth and Sports Strategy, Climate Action, the Youth, Peace, and Security Strategy, the United Nations Youth Advisory Council, and direct cooperation in the "Bidaya" human development initiative.  

Dr. Sobhy acknowledged UNFPA's work and noted that the ongoing collaboration with UNFPA has been integral to the Ministry’s strategy. "Our partnership with UNFPA is a key pillar of our efforts to empower young Egyptians and promote sustainable development," he stated. "We are eager to broaden this partnership and implement new initiatives that will have a lasting impact on our communities."  

Mr. Sassenrath expressed his appreciation for the strong collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, praising their dedication to youth issues. "We are proud to partner with the Ministry in supporting the young people of Egypt, equipping them with the tools and opportunities they need to shape their future," he said. "UNFPA remains committed to expanding our joint efforts, particularly in projects that promote reproductive health and improve the overall well-being of youth."

The meeting reflects UNFPA’s dedication to fostering meaningful partnerships that enhance opportunities for youth and contribute to sustainable development across Egypt. Together with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, UNFPA looks forward to driving forward new initiatives that support youth empowerment, health, and the broader development agenda.
