UNFPA and the National Council for Women organized the first interactive training for the State Council female judges on combating violence against women, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice on December 4-5.
The workshop tackled the role of forensic medicine in crimes of violence against women, the different forms of violence, and the referral pathways.
It also presented the legal dimension and legislative framework for crimes of violence against women, ways to conduct the final investigation, and the relevant articles of the Penal Code.
In 2021, around 100 women were sworn in as the first female judges to join Egypt's State Council, following a call by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi to include women in the State Council and the Public Prosecution.
This comes as part of activities held within the context of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which start on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and run until December 10, Human Rights Day.
This workshop was organized with the support of KOICA and the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
