UNFPA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports took the third round of the Destination Egypt 2030 activities to Luxor on April 4-6, with the support of the European Union in Egypt under the National Population Strategy Programme, and in cooperation with Etijah Youth and Development Consultancy Institute.

This round marked the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, through 3-days-activities that engaged hundreds of young people to raise their awareness around population issues, namely population growth and the promotion of a small-sized family.

The Destination Egypt 2030 initiative involves 3-days monthly activities across Egypt’s governorates to promote different developmental issues. It also seeks to promote different historical and touristic sites within the governorates.

The activities were centered on a 2K run along the corniche, followed by a musical performance by High Dam, Al-Mena, Saher El-Zoghby and Yasmine Zaki, as part of UNFPA’s Music for Development Initiative, as well as a performance by freestyle footballer Yorok.

Participants also took part in a capacity building workshop and an interactive theater performance tackling different population issues, as well as a policy dialogue with UNFPA Representative Dr. Aleksandar Bodiroza. Other activities included a visit to one of Luxor’s temples.

Destination Egypt 2030 aims at mobilizing young people to address developmental challenges through active participation in sports, music, art, community mobilization and capacity building initiatives.
