UNFPA coordinated a collaboration between the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Ministry of Environment to enhance the Mawadda premarital education curriculum, through educating engaged couples about the impact of climate change on health, including reproductive health, and to promote sustainable consumption practices.

Mawadda, implemented by the Ministry of Social Solidarity and supported by UNFPA, aims at raising the awareness of young couples who are about to get married through an educational program. The program focuses on the social, psychological and religious aspects of marriage, as well as provides information on family planning, reproductive health and gender-based violence.

Under the collaboration between the Ministries of Social Solidarity and Environment, a workshop was held on December 22, targeting 20 Mawadda trainers, ensuring that these crucial topics are effectively integrated into the program. The workshop was delivered by Eng. Lydia Elwa from the Ministry of Environment.

The workshop relayed the impact of climate change on reproductive health, including its negative impact on pregnancy and childbirth and potential impacts on child development. It also explained the relationship between climate crises and the rise in gender-based violence against women and girls, among other topics.

The workshop also oriented participants on responsible consumption and sustainable practices for couples in their homes and everyday choices.
