The Position:

You will report directly to the Assistant Representative.

Job Purpose:

The total number of Syrians in Egypt is estimated by the government to be 250,000 – 300,000, and are mainly concentrated in focus areas within Cairo (50%) and Alexandria (20%), and to a lesser extent in Damietta (11%) and Dakahlia (7%).

Despite the government regulations on Syrians free access to PHC units, barriers exist with regards to quality of services, as well as their accessibility, with possible effect on sexual and reproductive health, including sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and family planning (FP) on affected populations. Protection challenges identified by Syrian refugees included widespread SGBV and harassment, trauma and need for psychosocial support, child protection and security threats related to local criminality and exploitation. The current political turmoil in the region will further compromise the situation of Syrian refugees, making interventions more necessary than ever.

In the UNFPA country office in Egypt, in the context of the implementation of the 10th Country Programme, and in view of the above situation, you will play a vital role in emergency preparedness and humanitarian assistance, in line with UNFPA global strategy in humanitarian settings. You will contribute to strengthen national capacity to provide sexual and reproductive health services, and SGBV prevention and response in humanitarian settings. You will provide strategic support and communicate on coordinated humanitarian and emergency response, with responsibility for technical support and programming.
