UNFPA in partnership with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Cairo, organised a private screening of the award winning Egyptian short film ‘32B’ directed by Mohamed Taher at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Zamalek on May 5. 

The screening was followed by a conversation with the director and cast of the UNFPA-supported short film. 

32B follows the story of Hazem, a single father Hazem navigating a relationship with his teenage daughter, Malak, as she enters puberty. The film focuses on the evolving relationship between fathers and daughters, challenging harmful social norms. 

Following the screening, director Mohamed Taher, writer Haitham Dabbour, and cast members Mohamed Mamdouh, Hana Shiha, Jessica Hossam El-Din, Ahmed Dash, and Gehad Hossam El-Din participated in a panel discussion. The panelists repeatedly highlighted the power of representation in shaping father-daughter dynamics and the importance of normalizing conversations about reproductive health for young women in Egypt.

Through this partnership, UNFPA and the Royal Norwegian Embassy are creating space for dynamic, honest dialogue on the role of men and boys in advancing the reproductive health and rights of women and girls within their families. By utilizing the power of cinema, this initiative makes complex health messaging more accessible through relatable storytelling, helping to reach wider audiences.

Through storytelling, reflection, and dialogue, the event fostered a meaningful exchange on positive masculinity. UNFPA looks forward to continued collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Embassy to engage broader audiences in these essential discussions on reproductive health and social norms.
