Under the EU Support to Egypt’s National Population Strategy, family planning service providers were trained on contraceptive use.

364 physicians from 15 priority governorates were trained on the latest medical eligibility criteria for contraceptive use, and clinical techniques for insertion of subdermal implants “Implanon NXT.”

Consequently, each district in each of the 15 governorates has now at least two physicians capable of counseling, insertion and removal of Implanon.

ToT training session were also held for enhancing integration of reproductive health services and enhancing feedback and referrals in three governorates. Trainees included directors of family planning, primary health care, maternal and child health, and outreach workers.

The “EU support of Egypt's National Population Strategy” kicked off in April 2018 with the support of an EU-grant of 27 Million Euros.

The project aims at increasing the use of voluntary, rights-based family planning through improved supply of family planning services and commodities, increased demand for family planning, and enhanced governance for implementation of the National Population Strategy. It will ultimately benefit Egyptians of reproductive age who will have more choices regarding the size of their families, as well as the timing and spacing of children.
